Maple Grove has a Home Reading Program that is meant to help students improve their reading fluency, as well as develop a lifelong love of reading. Students are encouraged to read from a variety of materials such as fiction, and non-fiction books, cookbooks, magazines, newspapers, brochures, etc.
Every student has received a red Home Reading duo-tang with an information page and recording sheets. Each night the students are to read for 30 minutes, record the date and book title, and get a parent signature.
Each MONDAY students need to bring their reading logs to school so that I can check off how much they have read. For each 25 nights of reading, they will receive a star on a Reading Program certificate. These certificates will be awarded at the end of the year. Students will also receive a bookmark when they have read for 200 nights.
